Licorice Root Tea As a tonic, and for sore throats, colds and coughs. Acts as a cough suppressant, expectorant, laxative, and is used to treat some cancers. Once used as a sweetening agent in herbal compounds.

As an aphrodesiac, emmenagogue, galactogogue. Useful for gastic and duodenal ulcers, bronchial asthma, infections, malaria, diabetes, dermatitis. Antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, laxative, antiulcer, antibacterial, antimicrobial, antifungal, immune stimulant.

Modern research is finding use of Liquorice's active ingredient, Glycyrrhizin, in treating AIDS, Hepatitis B, Cancer, SARS and many other "plague" conditions.

Japan uses Licorice Root for the treatment and control of chronic viral hepatitis. Recent Japanese studies have found that glycyrrhizic acid disrupts latent Kaposi's sarcoma, exhibiting a strong anti-viral effect, which has benefits in treating Tuberculosis. The root has been used for many research experiment and lowers the amount of serum testosterone in select patients.

Chinese herbal tea recipes and Tincture recipes call for Licorice Root in many of them, and for many ailments. It appears that the Chinese consider Licorice Root as a beneficial ingredient to most of their recipes.
